Frequently Asked Questions for Referrers
How do I refer to MLEA?
Referrals can be made by anyone on our online referral form, or by calling and speaking to one of our helpful team members. If completing the online form, ensure all sections are completed.
What is your availability?
Once a referral is accepted, we will call and confirm your intake call appointment within 3 days. During the intake call we will book your face-to-face assessment. We aim to have the face-to-face assessment book within 2-3 weeks of receiving the referral.
HELP, my participant/I need an urgent appointment, can you help?
MLEA reserves a certain number of slots each month for urgent requests. Please call and speak to our reception staff to confirm availability.
How quickly will the report be completed?
If you are after a Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA), these take 2-3 weeks for the team to complete. More complex reports can be turned around in 3-4 weeks. This includes SIL and SDA reports. More complex reports such as assistive technology and complex home modifications, take longer due to the reporting and equipment trials required.
Are your therapists qualified in home modifications?
Yes, we have a number of staff who have completed their certification in Complex Home Modifications. You can find more information on our home modification processes here.
What conditions do you work with?
MLEA therapists have a wide skill set and work with adults who have a variety of conditions. As occupational therapists we are interested in a person’s function and the impact of their condition on their function.
We have experience in working with people who have physical and psychosocial conditions. More information regarding individual therapist’s specific experience can be found on our team page.
I am not sure MLEA is going to be the right fit for my participant, can we talk before I make a referral?
MLEA offers a free case-concierge service for this purpose. If you want to discuss your participant’s needs or the participant would like to speak directly with one the team, this can be arranged with no obligation.
Why do you complete an intake call, what is that for?
MLEA conducts an intake call with one of our OTs for all new participants/and or carers prior. This call takes roughly 30mins-1 hours and forms the initial part of their assessment prior to their face-to-face appointment. This is to ensure we understand the full scope of the participants needs, can hit the ground running with planning and preparation for their assessment and ensures we give an accurate quote for the service agreement. We have found this process helps to ease any uncertainty for both us and the participant before any time or funding is spent.
The NDIS plan has limited funds available; can you still work with me or my participant?
MLEA will try and work with you as much as we are able within your budget. Our capacity will depend on your goals and needs and how much funding is available. Please call and chat with our friendly reception staff or make use of our complimentary concierge service and book in a time to speak to one our Occupational Therapists about your specific needs.
What happens to the hours not used in the service agreement?
Our quotes are an estimate only. MLEA will only bill for services completed. Any unused hours are not held or reserved by us.
What areas do you service?
A. MLEA services the Gold Coast, Logan, Redlands, the Bay Islands, Brisbane South, Brisbane North, Ipswich, and Moreton Regions. If you or your clients are located outside this area please enquire with our reception staff, as we often conduct outreach trips and services if the demand is there.
Do you charge for travel?
A. Travel is charged as per the NDIS Price Guide (external link). Please see our fees page for more information.
If I am not on the NDIS will MLEA therapists still work with me?
Of course, one of our team will contact you to discuss your needs and goals and we will provide you with a quote prior to commencing services.
Can I choose my therapist?
Yes! You can find photos and biographies of all our Occupational Therapists on our team page. MLEA employs female and male occupational therapists.
If you complete an access report, will this guarantee I will be accepted to the NDIS?
Our access reports are a summarised FCA, to accompany the other evidence the NDIS requires to assess a person for their eligibility to the NDIS. The access report we provide focuses on your functional abilities. We can not guarantee any outcome.
